Project Management

The project management process involves leading a team to achieve specific goals within a certain time frame. In many cases, they focus on three important objectives: time, quality and cost. Successful projects are completed on time, within budget and meet quality standards.

Henry Gantt, a forefather of project management, is famous for inventing the Gantt chart. Prior to the 1950’s, projects were mostly managed using this chart and other casual tools.

We use the Gantt chart, for The Agency at Quinnipiac, to plan out the upcoming weeks. It helps us keep everything organized for a more efficient workflow. Everyone knows what to do and when to get it done. It also helps us keep track of our progress throughout the semester.

In the 1950’s, organizations started to implement project management tools towards complex projects. Project management methods were often tailored to their respectable industries. This was the beginning of the modern project management era.

Project Management Software

It’s a software used to plan, organize, manage and execute projects. The company that I’m interning at uses ClickUp. Personally, I haven’t used it throughout my internship, but I feel this app is very popular among many companies. It’s a good collaboration tool from what I hear.

This internship also introduced me to Slack, a cloud-based instant messaging service. We also use this app at The Agency. It’s considered a more “professional” way of communicating with each other. I thought it was interesting to see these tools being used in different industries.

I signed up for a Trello account after watching Professor Hastings’s video. It was the one that appealed to me the most. The other software looked very text heavy as I prefer more visuals. Unfortunately, my workspace is a little bland at the moment. I’m still trying to figure out how to use it.

I was able to breakdown each module into smaller objectives. That was the easy part. I tried to keep it as simple as possible with a “doing” and “done” list. The due dates are a good reminder for the upcoming projects. It takes away the hassle from logging into blackboard and checking the assignment.

I can see how this software can be beneficial for project managers. It can help them navigate through a heavy workload. Personally, I don’t see much use for it just yet. I’m taking seven courses this semester, but I’ve been able to power through. My biggest strengths include time management and proficient organizational skills.
